Picture of milk and eggsFor many kids, having a glass of milk with dinner or their afternoon snack is a daily occurrence, but those that receive free or reduced-price lunches during the school year often go without during the summer. This creates what experts call the milk gap. Milk is the top food source for three of the nutrients most likely to be missing in kids’ diets – calcium, vitamin D and potassium. But despite the demand, it’s one of the least donated items at food shelves and banks. Similarly, eggs are in high demand and low donation amounts, especially with prices increasing as they are right now. Both milk and eggs are high sources of protein.  Protein-rich foods are extremely important for—and frequently requested by—families struggling with hunger. The amount of protein in one large egg remains the same at a whopping 6 grams, and the protein in eggs is one of the highest quality proteins found in any food. Every egg still has 13 essential nutrients including choline, folate, iron and zinc. But the expense of these items is why they are seldom donated and when they are, why they are offered at smaller quantities. To address this, we launched the Hallie Q. Brown Milk & Egg Club.

You can help make a difference with the simple click of a button below. Milk and eggs are important parts of a balanced diet, especially for growing kids. The protein in both of them helps build strong bones and other nutrients power kids to play, learn and grow.  Below, you can choose to make a one time donation of $25 that will help provide milk and eggs for a month for growing kids; become a member of the Milk & Egg Club with an annual donation of $100 or a monthly donation of $10 or more and we will send you a spiffy membership card; or choose whatever amount you would like to help ensure our young people have the nutrients and protein they need to grow up healthy.  Simply click the button below. (Note: For monthly or other recurring donations, please select the check box next to "YES! I'd like to make my donation a recurring gift." and select the frequency.)

Thank you for supporting Hallie Q. Brown and helping us to ensure healthy kids in our community.
